Geomagnetic Storm

The solar wind is blowing past earth at elevated levels today and combined with a south tilting Bz, is stirring up geomagnetic storming at high latitudes. C-Class flare activity is now taking place.. full article:

NASA twin STEREO spacecraft observed a spectacular coronal mass ejection launched from the vicinity of decaying sunspot 1176 on April 3rd around 0500 UT. The blast was not Earth directed. Nevertheless, there is a slim chance that it deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field on or about April 6th. CME movies: STEREO-A, STEREO-B. UNSTABLE FILAMENT: An active filament of solar magnetism is snaking around the sun’s southeastern limb today. Measuring more than 200,000 km along its sinuous backbone, the vast structure is in a constant state of motion. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory froze it in this snapshot taken 20:16 UT on April 5th.

  1. It is interesting that a glancing blow came a day before a 7.4 and 7. 1 earthquake in Japan. (I heard there were 2 back to back earthquakes which did not take long for the National Geology Institute to call one earthquake. And downgrade the quake from 7.4 to 7.1. ) Are these earthquakes related to the solar activity? Or HAARP?
